STRUTT'S NORTH MILL

Derwent Valley Visitor Centre, Belper North Mill Trust, Bridgefoot, Belper, Derbyshire

In 1804 William Strutt built North Mill, then the world's most technologically advanced, 'fire-proof', building.

Strutt's North Mill played a vital role in the UK's Industrial Revolution and is of architectural and historic importance. It is one of a chain of mills that form part of UNESCO's Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage site. Their knowledgeable guides will take you on a tour of the mill site and explain more about its social, historic and industrial background.

We now display, by original and replica machinery, the history of cotton spinning, 'Brettles' renowned silk and cotton hosiery collection.
